By using cyclohexane as solvent and N2 gas as protective gas, citral (3,7-timethyl-2,6-diene-octanal-1) was able to be chemically converted into dehydrocitral (3,7-demethyl-2,4,6 -triene-octanal-1) over CaO at 60℃. The total yield of dehydrocitral could be optimized to 33.4 % while the selected mass ratio of CaO/citral was 2.
