Schema is an abstract knowledge structure stored in the memory. In process of learning new knowledge, it is necessary to combine new knowledge with previously acquired knowledge to promote a good command of new knowledge. When Schema Theory is applied in English reading teaching, students are encouraged to conduct positive reading activities and make full use of schema to predict and revise. At the beginning of this paper Schema Theory is briefly introduced. Then the paper focuses on how to build schema in English reading teaching to help students read effectively.
