应用型本科人才是指具有一定理论知识和专业知识。并能将理论知识和科技发明有效应用于社会实践领域的复合型本科人才。它是与我国新时期经济社会发展相适应的高等教育人才培养类型，定“性”在行业，定“向”在应用，定“格”在复合，定“点”在实践，具有“基础扎实、口径适度”的知识规格，“注重实践、创造应用’’的能力规格，“品格优良、个性发展”的素质规格。
