The maternal oviposition behavior of Encarsia sophia on Bemisia tabaci were observed in the laboratory. The oviposition process could be divided into four steps: searching host with antenna and probing host with ovipositor, examining internal environment of host, laying egg, and pulling ovipositor. There were differences in body moving during internal host examination, movement of ovipositor, movement of body during laying egg, pulling ovipositor and probing times before laying egg between the oviposition processes leading to female and male offspring. There were no significant differences in the time needed for external host examination between ovipostion leading to female (14.84 s) and male (15.50 s) offspring. However, the time used in internal host examination for laying female egg (190.23 s) was significantly shorter than that for laying male egg (482.55 s). Oviposition of female egg could be determined by the presence of static status of female wasp after internal host examination and the push-pull movement of ovipositor; however, it is difficult to determine whether a male egg was laid by behavior observation.
