“乳痈”病名首见于晋代《针灸甲乙经》，其后《肘后备急方》《刘涓子鬼遗方》等书中记述的乳痈可能包含不乳儿乳痈，《儒门事亲》所述可能为不乳儿乳痈，《外科启玄》首次以实例描述乳疳即不乳儿乳痈，《医宗金鉴·外科心法要诀》中记载可明确定义为不乳儿乳痈。其病因病机主要由风、热邪侵袭，或忧郁、暴怒伤肝，或厚味饮食，致厥阴之气不行、阳明之血壅而成；或湿火挟肝阳逆络，或时疫、伏邪聚结，使气血瘀滞成痈；男子乳痈则主因怒火、房欲过度损伤肝肾，使肝虚血燥，肾虚精怯，肝经无以荣养，或胃火炽盛、中壅乳房成痈。
“유옹”병명수견우진대《침구갑을경》，기후《주후비급방》《류연자귀유방》등서중기술적유옹가능포함불유인유옹，《유문사친》소술가능위불유인유옹，《외과계현》수차이실례묘술유감즉불유인유옹，《의종금감·외과심법요결》중기재가명학정의위불유인유옹。기병인병궤주요유풍、열사침습，혹우욱、폭노상간，혹후미음식，치궐음지기불행、양명지혈옹이성；혹습화협간양역락，혹시역、복사취결，사기혈어체성옹；남자유옹칙주인노화、방욕과도손상간신，사간허혈조，신허정겁，간경무이영양，혹위화치성、중옹유방성옹。
“Breast abscess”was firstly mentioned in Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing(《针灸甲乙经》)in the Jin Dynasty,and was also recorded in Zhouhou Beiji Fang(《肘后备急方》)and Liujuanzi Guiyi Fang(《刘涓子鬼遗方》),in which“breast abscess”might be at the non-lactation stage. The same disease recorded in Ru-men Shiqin(《儒门事亲》)might refer to“breast abscess”at the non-lactation stage and the case description of this disease was firstly recorded in Waike Qixuan(《外科启玄》). The definite definition of“breast ab-scess”at the non-lactation stage was recorded in Yizhong Jinjian:Waike Xinfa Yaojue(《医宗金鉴·外科心法要诀》). In terms of etiology and pathogenesis,the disease is related to invasion of pathogenic wind heat,damage of liver by worry,depression and anger,or strong flavor diets,resulting in qi obstruction of Juey-in and blood stagnation of Yangming;or related to interaction of damp,fire and liver yang in meridians,epi-demic climatic disorder,resulting in qi and blood stagnation. Breast abscess in male is caused by anger and o-ver-sexual activity that damages the liver and kidney,leading to liver deficiency,blood dryness and kidney essence deficiency;or caused by malnutrition in liver meridian or excessive stomach fire.
