double oppressions%sisterhood%identity construction
Applying feminist theory, this thesis aims at dissecting the process of the protagonist Celie in Alice Walker ’s The Color Purple, her pursuit of woman subjective selfhood through the perspective of sisterhood. It discusses how Celie manages to get rid of the racial and sexual oppressions, and finally successfully grow from a woman who lacks of self identity to a woman with com-plete subjective selfhood consciousness under the influence of sisterhood from Sophia, Shug, and Nettie.
