The relationship between material property and part function was described .The function, stressed state and failure mode of typical automotive parts and the corresponding material property and characterization parameters were expounded also .Owing to being worked by different technologies during manufacturing process of parts , the part function is mostly related not only to the mechanical properties of material but also to the effect of manufacturing process of part on material property thereby on part function . Some typical examples were enumerated to illustrate the relation the function to the property .
