During lifting up of front beam of the quayside container crane,safety hazard for the crane operation may be caused when the steel rope connecting trolley outlet pulley and head fixed end changes a lot in its length. To control the var-iation,it’s required to select the proper hinge-point roller position. The detailed and simple models are built for changes of rope length during lifting-up process,with analysis by geometric and calculus methods,hence to deduce the analytic ex-pression. Conclusion is drawn in view of the evaluated examples for the existing design and simple model.
