语言是社会和文化交际中最重要的工具。而习语作为语言的精华，不仅蕴含了丰富的文化内涵，同时也常常出现在人们的日常交际中。该文选取了跨文化交际的角度来探讨汉语动物习语的英译。文中从目标语言中动物形象的处理问题着手对翻译策略进行了分析，其中谈到的策略包括直译、对等翻译、意译以及直译加注。该文意在通过对汉英动物习语的特征、文化内涵以及翻译策略的研究，增进西方读者对于中国文化的理解和审美，并且促进中西之间的跨文化交流。

Language acts as the most important tool for social and cultural communication. Idioms, the essence of language, not only embody rich cultural connotations but also enjoy frequency of use in people ’s daily life. This thesis discusses the translation of Chinese animal idioms in the light of intercultural perspective. The analysis of the translation methods is presented in the appli-cation of the treatment of animal images in the TL (target language), and these methods include literal translation, equivalent translation, free translation as well as literal translation with notes. The study on the features of Chinese and English animal idi-oms, their cultural associations and translation strategies is expected to help enhance westerners ’understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture as well as promote intercultural communication.
