Short carbon nanotubes were prepared using activated carbon, silicon oxide and ferrocene mix- ture as raw material in a horizontal furnace using the carrier gas Ar. The nanotubes have a typical length up to 1 micrometer and a diameter in the range of 30 nm to 100 nm. The morphology, surface structure, composition and crystallinity of these nanotubes were examined by electron microscopy, electron diffraction and EDS. The formation of short carbon nanotubes was also discussed.
