北宋前期是宋代论体文的发轫阶段，这一时期的论体文的整体特征较为明显。思想内容由于受时代思潮与现实政治的影响，呈现出以儒为主、三教融合的趋势。创作主体则集官僚、文士、学者三位于一身，对论体文的品格有较大影响。艺术上的整体特征也开始显现，如体制上普遍要求主于求理（儒家之理），以资于用；风格上则有义尽语简与致密奥博的不同；语言上间用偶俪，但以散语为主。
북송전기시송대론체문적발인계단，저일시기적론체문적정체특정교위명현。사상내용유우수시대사조여현실정치적영향，정현출이유위주、삼교융합적추세。창작주체칙집관료、문사、학자삼위우일신，대론체문적품격유교대영향。예술상적정체특정야개시현현，여체제상보편요구주우구리（유가지리），이자우용；풍격상칙유의진어간여치밀오박적불동；어언상간용우려，단이산어위주。
The proses titled with "Lun" in the early northern Song dynasty had made progress and formed a number of general characteristics. Firstly, influenced by thought and politics of that age, the characteristic of their contents was showing a fusion of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism but mainly Confucianism. Secondly, the characteristic of their writers was a trinity of bureaucracy, scholars and academics. Thirdly, the system requirement was to search truths especially Confucianism for life. There were differences between conciseness, comprehensiveness and dense in styles. In addition, they used dual language occasionally, but mainly casuallanguage.
