岭南画派是本世纪初首先从广东兴起。以岭南三杰为代表，主张吸取古今中外尤其是西方绘画艺术之长以改造传统国画，使之朝着现代化、民族化、大众化方向发展，从而提高审美教育效能的一个在国内外有影响的美术流派。其表现形式是折衷中西，融汇古今。林风眠虽不属于岭南画派画家，但与岭南画派进行变革，吸引国外绘画的先进技法和语言，倡导“艺术革命”，建立“现代国画”的革命精神是一脉相承的。
령남화파시본세기초수선종엄동흥기。이령남삼걸위대표，주장흡취고금중외우기시서방회화예술지장이개조전통국화，사지조착현대화、민족화、대음화방향발전，종이제고심미교육효능적일개재국내외유영향적미술류파。기표현형식시절충중서，융회고금。림풍면수불속우령남화파화가，단여령남화파진행변혁，흡인국외회화적선진기법화어언，창도“예술혁명”，건립“현대국화”적혁명정신시일맥상승적。
Lingnan School appears in the beginning of this century, first from Guangdong. Represented by Lingnan three heroes, Lingnan school, an influential art genre at home and abroad, advocates to in- novate traditional Chinese painting by learning from the virtue of painting arts, especially from western countries, making towards the development of modernization, nationalization and popularity so as to im- prove the aesthetic education performance. Its manifestations are a compromise between East and West, and the fusion of ancient and modern. Although Lin Fengmian has never been one part of Lingnan School painters, the spirits of his revolution in proposing "Art Revolution" and establishing "Modern Chinese Painting" remain the same strain with Lingnan School in attracting foreign advanced painting skills and techniques.
