长阳县乐园高山番茄于1985年开始发展，经过26年的发展历程，目前正处于鼎盛时期，面积由当初的20hm^2发展到现在的1300hm^2，投入和产值均在逐年增加。但是目前病害加重、市场竞争加剧，该区的番茄生产面临着极大地挑战。因此实施可持续发展是该区和其它高山蔬菜产区发展的必须战略。
