The study interprets Landsat TM remote sensing images with RS and GIS to obtain a distri- bution map of landscape types of the Sha River watershed in Yong'an. By Fragstats software, 23 inde- xes concerning landscape pattern of study area are worked out. And the indices are screened according to correlation analysis and factor analysis, by which a quantitative analysis can be done to indicate landscape pattern changes of the area. The main conclusions are as follows: 1 ) The three common factors, including the factor of area and extent characteristics, the factor of shape characteristics and the factor of spatial distribution characteristics, can explain the main information contained in the 23 indices; 2) woodlands are dominant in the landscape with a regular and centralized structure, culti- vated lands are decreasing in number and increasingly centralized in structure, all showing deep influ- ences from anthropogenic interference. Since the eco-environment in the study area is fragile, appro- priate solutions should be taken to implement overall landscape ecosystem optimization and eco-envi- ronmental preservation.
