With excellent practical features and innovative conceptual design, metal-ceramic func-tionally graded material (FGM) has attracted worldwide attention. At present scenario, researches of this kind of material are limited within the topics of material design, preparation and performance evaluation domestically and internationally. However, an effective processing method is probably the most critical factor putting any of the new materials into practical applications. This paper summarized the develop-ment, synthesis methods and its extensive applications of metal-ceramic FGM. Additionally, a method of self-induced EDM is discussed for the processing of metal-ceramic FGM.
