What is Chinese architecture nowadays? And how are the new generation architects trying to establish the essential value of this discipline? In this article, the authors try to address these questions with an analysis of the Villa Jian project by CU office, a building directly related with the past and the context from which it stands yet ready to face the unknown future. The building is a small- scale project, but keeps within it multiple layers waiting to be revealed. The project is intended to supply some fresh answers and ideas about contemporary Chinese architecture, and stands as a milestone in the chaotic and damaged landscape of Yantai.
