指令言语行为句是“V一V”出现的典型语境。在指令言语行为句,“V一V”表示听话者对说话者的礼貌;在断言言语行为句中,“V一V”蕴含了说话者的主观态度:命题内容不是一件特别正式同时也不是一件特别随意的事情;在“责备”言语行为句中,“V一V”表达说话者对听话者面子的顾及。“V一V”在发音上比“VV”略长和略重,在语义上比“VV”略实,这使得它在强加程度、郑重程度及责备程度上比“VV”要高。

The directives are the speech acts which“V-V”is generally found in. In directives, if the speaker wants to express the politeness as well,“V-V”may be employed. In assertives, if the speaker wants to imply that the proposition is something that is not of special seriousness and is also not of extreme casualness,“V-V”may be applied. In blames, if the speaker attends to save the face of the listener,“V-V”may be used.“V-V”is longer and stronger than“VV”in pronunciation and is more meaningful than“VV”, which yields that“V-V”conveys a higher degree of imposition, importance and blame than“VV”.
