The basic theory ,characteristics and flow chart of differential evolution algorithm were introduced in this paper .The optimization model of the impact mechanism of a hydraulic roofbolter was put forward .The differential evolution algorithm in 1stOpt software was used to optimize the impact mechanism . The efficiency of roofbolter was improved up to 76% . This proved that differential evolution algorithm is feasible in practical engineering optimization .
