This paper outlined the behaviors of medium and low temperature coal tar ,its hydrogenated oil products and the four main coal tar hydrogenation processes in recent years .It also analyzed the economic benefit for a project of 1M t/a coal tar hydrogenation.The result shows a good economic benefit,i.e.the net profit is 103 917 000 yuan per year and the payback period after tax is 5.4years.
