Objective To study the influence of sperm concentration and progressive motility on the recovery rate of human frozen spermatozoa. Methods The sperm concentration, progressive motility and the recovery rate after frozen-thawed process of 14190 semen samples were retrospectively analyzed. Results The sperm recovery rate increased significantly as the sperm concentration increased. The sperm recovery rate was positively correlated with the sperm concentration. The sperm progressive motility before freezing also affected the post-thawed sperm recovery rate. The post-thawed recovery rate (66.5±20.4)%in the group with sperm motility<50%was lower than that of group with sperm motility from 50%to 60%(69.2±16.3)%and group with sperm motility>60%(69.0±13.3)%, (P<0.05). But no statistical difference was found in recovery rate between the latter two groups. Conclusion Both of sperm concentration and progressive motility could be indicators for the recovery rate of human frozen spermatozoa.
