This paper describes the distribution of porphyry (porphyrite) in northwest Yunnan and lithochemical char-acteristics of primary ore bodies of porphyry (porphyrite). An evaluation on Cu-Ag ore-bearing potential of the ore bodies by macroelement markers was carried out. Porphyry (porphyrite) rock mass in northwest Yunnan are divided into five rock zones, or two types which are favorable rock mass for gold mineralization and favorable rock mass for copper mineralization. It is concluded that west Yunnan area has a great prospecting potential of porphyry.
