Based on the component requirements of an independent discipline,the paper expounds the independent discipline status of Corpus Linguistics,from its philosophy background,linguistic theory background,research object and target,research methodology,and its application prospect, which clarifies the superficial understandings which consider Corpus Linguistics as only a research tool or method.The paper also clarifies some basic theoretical issues of Corpus Linguistics.The develop-ment of Corpus Linguistics,an independent inter-discipline,will greatly promote the understanding to the nature of language,facilitate the innovation of the research methodology and the theories in lin-guistics,and have a significant influence on foreign language teaching.
