The development course of seed production techniques for hybrid rice over the last 42 years in China was reviewed. According to the changes of seed production yield from low to high, it may be divided into three stages including the exploratory stage, improving stage, and research stage. Different achievements were made during each stage. It is predicted that the next stage will surely focus on innovating easy and convenient seed production technology. Some labor-saving methods are introduced.
