根据广东省第一次全国水利普查水利工程基本情况普查成果，分析了广东省水库工程总体分布、工程规模、建成年代、坝型等特点，由此得出：广东省水库工程主要分布在粤东西北地区；河源市水库总数量和总库容均位居全省之首；以小型水库为主，但大中型水库起决定性作用；水库多建成于20世纪50-70年代；主要为均质土坝。
