Starting from the research on second language acquisi-tion, this paper discusses and analyzes the optimal age for chil-dren to learn a foreign language. Combined with the advantages of children in learning a second language, as well as relevant theo-retical studies such as critical period hypothesis, and the charac-teristics of secondary language learning and foreign language, this paper makes an exploration on the current primary school foreign language teaching in China, and finally proposes some personal views.
