多元文化共同发展是历史上新疆文化发展的一个显著特征。在新疆多元文化格局发展过程中，自西汉以来的屯垦，既为新疆多元文化发展注入了丰富的内涵，也为多元文化在差异中交流、整合创造了条件。屯垦的长期实施，使内地汉、锡伯等民族向新疆迁移，各民族、各地域文化因屯垦在新疆而汇聚；促进了内地农业技术向新疆的传播，游牧民族向定居农耕或农牧兼营转变，各民族生活方式产生了交融。
다원문화공동발전시역사상신강문화발전적일개현저특정。재신강다원문화격국발전과정중，자서한이래적둔은，기위신강다원문화발전주입료봉부적내함，야위다원문화재차이중교류、정합창조료조건。둔은적장기실시，사내지한、석백등민족향신강천이，각민족、각지역문화인둔은재신강이회취；촉진료내지농업기술향신강적전파，유목민족향정거농경혹농목겸영전변，각민족생활방식산생료교융。
The cultural diversity is a remarkable feature in the development of Xinjiang culture. In the development of various cultures, the stationing and cultivation, started since the West Han Dynansty, has not only enriched the multicultural connotation but also facilitated trans-cultural communication and integration. The long-term stationing and cultivation promoted the central Han people and other ethnic minorities such as Xibo migrated to Xinjiang and thus different minorities and cultures aggregate in Xinjiang, which promotes the spreading of agricultural techniques of central areas to Xinjiang and the change of nomadic life to faming life as well as the blending of various lifestyle.
