The paper theoretically studied the application of an amorphous electronic transformer to lowering the power consumption in the electronic energy meter. Ordinary transformer principles, the application of the amorphous electronic transformer and the performance comparison of two types of transformers were introduced to show the advantages of the amorphous electronic transformer. It was indicated in the paper that the amorphous electronic transformer would hav e wide application prospects in reducing the power consumption in the electronic energy meter.
