The strain trench between hydraulic piston rod and cylinder in governor of older-typed generating units is a com-mon problem that seriously affects the safe operation of the units. The principle and technological characteristics of EDM surface restoration technology, as well as its application in Gongzui Hydropower Station are all analyzed. It is concluded that EDM sur-face restoration technology can solve the problem of strain trench effectively.
