浙江省第十一次党代会提出建设“物质富裕精神富有的新浙江”的号召。湖州地处长三角腹地的太湖之滨，是中国历史上久负盛名的“江表大郡”和“东南望郡”。湖州不但是中国的“鱼米之乡”“丝绸之府”“文化之邦”，而且是一座“富饶秀美宜居乐活”之城。“人生只合住湖州”看似元朝诗人的一句戏言，却准确地反映了湖州的不同凡响。现今，湖州人民正满怀信心地为创建生态型滨湖大城市而不懈奋斗。

The 11th Party Congress of Zhejiang Province came up with “building up a new Zhejiang with rich material and wealthy spirit”. Huzhou is located near Taihu Lake,which lies on the Yangtze River Delta.It’s also one of the most famous ancient towns in Chinese histo-ry,being known for its monument and prosperity.It is not only described as a land of abundance,the home of silk and a state of culture,but also a rich and beautiful city for high quality living.“People are suitable to live in Huzhou only”seems a joke of a Yuan dynasty poet,how-ever,it reflects the uniqueness of Huzhou exactly.Nowadays people in Huzhou are full of confidence,fighting for establishing an ecological lakeside city.
