Objective To observe the effects of chronic immobilization stress on blood pressure and vas-cular endothelial function in rats .Methods 20 SD rats were randomly divided into two groups , control group and stress group,10 rats in each group.Rats in the stress group were subjected to immobilization stress 2h/d for 21 d using a restrainer .24 h after the last stress ,rats in the two groups were used to measure the locomotive ac-tivity,the arterial blood pressure, vascular tone and plasma nitric oxide (NO) level, respectively. Results Com-pared with the control group, the locomotive activity of the stress group was markedly decreased (P<0.05), systolic blood pressure was significantly increased (P<0.05),while the vascular diastolic function and the plasma NO level were markedly decreased ( P<0 .01 or P<0 .05 ) .Conclusion Chronic immobilization stress can induce vascular endothelial dysfunction which contributes to the development of hypertension and other car -diovascular diseases .
