Atmospheric pressure photoionization ion source (APPI) was a new kind of soft ionization ion source applied in LC–MS/MS,which ionized the gas phase sample by photochemical effect. The analysis of weak polar compound by mass spectrometry was promoted by APPI. The basic principle and application advantages of atmospheric pressure photoionization which applied in the LC–MS/MS technology was introduced. Its application in the qualitative and quantitative detection and analysis were summarized.
