Potential method, by measuring potential difference when potentiostat is 'on' and 'off' , is the mostly used method to decide and solve cathode protection system failure. This article takes one of the Lan-Cheng-Yu transporting oil pipeline terminals as example. Cathode protection system of the terminal provided inadequate protection while potentiostat has been outputting high current and high voltage. Multifrequency alternating current attenuation method was used to solve the problem and was proved to be effective.
