End-to-end communication cannot be es-tablished in some certain networks with intermittent-connection, long-delay, symmetric-rate and high-er-ror channels. Communications based on such networks are called Delay Tolerant Networking, which is essen-tialy different from traditional Internet and cannot be implemented with TCP/IP protocol directly. This paper first introduces main characteristics of DTN and differ-ences from traditional Internet. Second, it analyzes the technical architecture of DTN. Third, it provides the hot research topics of DTN. Finally, this paper pre-sents potential applications based on DTN.
