夏竦“出入荣华四十余年”,虽“为人无足取”,但博文好学,在文学方面颇有一定的成就。他诗词文皆擅,作为后期西昆派诗人,其文论较为丰富,已涉及多方面的内容。夏竦的文学思想对前期昆派有承有变,充分反映了后期西昆派诗人在诗风转换期的发展变化。在诗歌创作方面,也颇有自己的个性。夏竦诗与其他昆体诗人的诗歌多缺少主观情感,思想内容单调、贫乏相比,他还具有托意委婉之作,微语中藏有讽刺,或寄予寓意,富有哲理。其诗风具有多面性,既有西昆浓艳之风,也有清丽、气势开阔之作。总言之,对夏竦诗歌的研究,有助于我们深入认识后期西昆派的性质、作用,更为清晰地描绘北宋诗坛由“唐音”向“宋调”的发展轨迹。

As one who was“glorious for more than forty years”, although Xia Song“have done nothing deserved to be praised”, he was studious and learned, and have made some achievements in literature. He was good at poem, Ci and prose. As a later Xikun Poets, Xia Song’s literary theory was abundant and many-sided. His literary ideology, which sufficiently reflected the development and variation in Xikun Poets in the course of transformation of their poetic style, inherited and changed former Xikun poets’. Xia Song’s poems were individualized. Comparing with other Xikun poets’ works, which had poor emotion and monotonous thought, Xia Song’ poems had more euphemistic bailment. Some of his works had latent satire, some were philosophical. Furthermore, the style of his works were diverse. Gaudy poems in Xikun’s style and clean, grand poems were coexisted in his complete works. In a word, the study of Xia Song’s poems can help us deeply understand the quality and effect of later Xikun Poets, clearly describe the course of the de-velopment from Tang Style to Song Style.
