唐诗称引司马相如有两个角度：一是从文学出发，司马相如在唐人心中是最优秀的辞赋作家，诗人们多以相如赋作为标准去衡量自己与他人，并进而由辞赋家演变为才学、才华的代表；一是从人生际遇出发，司马相如献赋入仕、驷马回蜀的得志与既贫又病且穷的失意形成鲜明对比。这两个角度又是统一的，正因为相如是文学典范，诗人们才喜欢在人生际遇上吟咏称引，而不断地吟咏称引，更深化了相如文学典范的地位。
당시칭인사마상여유량개각도：일시종문학출발，사마상여재당인심중시최우수적사부작가，시인문다이상여부작위표준거형량자기여타인，병진이유사부가연변위재학、재화적대표；일시종인생제우출발，사마상여헌부입사、사마회촉적득지여기빈우병차궁적실의형성선명대비。저량개각도우시통일적，정인위상여시문학전범，시인문재희환재인생제우상음영칭인，이불단지음영칭인，경심화료상여문학전범적지위。
There were two views in Citing Sima Xiangru in Tang Poetry:literature and life.From the first view,Sima Xiangru was the most outstanding writer of Ci and Fu in the hearts of Tang dynasty’s poets.They took Sima Xiangru’s Fu as standard to evaluate themselves and others. And SIma XIangru Sima Xiangru become a symbol of talent and learning has in Tang poetry. From the second view,Xiangru was a combination of luck and misfortune.These two views were also uniform.Because of the literary success,Tang poets liked to compare themselves to Xiangru in live experience,which consolidated Xiangru’s literary status contrary.
