Generator rotor is the key component among the hydro generating unit. The structural design for the rotor with large capacity and high speed is the focus and difficulty of the research in industry. In this paper, the structural design characteristics of generator rotor and the stress analysis and structural optimization result of the key components for GD-3 Project in Ethiopia are presented for the purpose of reference and experience exchange for the structural design of high speed hydro generator rotors of similar kind.
