Group technology was introduced briefly. The flow was analyzed that group technology was used to rebuild multi-axis drilling machine for aluminum alloy automobile parts based on ordinary lathe. The general structure of multi-axis drilling machine used on pump body component of automobiles was designed. Then the reasonable cutting parameters were determined through experiments. Besides,the designs of axle box module,fixture module and control system module were focused on. Using this machine,good effect has achieved in the process of machining automotive parts such as pump body,and the cost and time are saved for enterprise. At the same time,it provides reference for other enterprises on how to transform the lathe in idle into efficient automatic multi-axis drilling ma-chine applied to automotive parts machining.
