文化是人的本质力量的对象化，人是文化的本体。人文精神作为文化的精神，体现着人追求自由的价值取向。人类通过文化作用于外部世界和映现自身。狭义的文化即精神形态的文化尤能体现文化功能的能动性，因此人们通常用文化来特指精神形态的文化。精髓在文化中的地位和作用使之与文化的本质区别开来。核心价值体系既是文化中的最精粹部分，又对文化的发展起着至关重要的作用。关于前者，核心价值体系作为上层建筑中由精神形态的价值所组成的体系，通过意识形态在文化中以“精神的太阳”方式，集中体现着人文精神的时代特征，从而成为最精粹部分。关于后者，核心价值体系对于文化的批判，体现了文化对自身的反思，集中体现在对文化发展中的导向和凝聚作用上。超越不同于发展，文化在超越自身的过程中所产生的异化，就是文化在其两大功能能动性发挥中的异化。

Culture is the objectification of the essential power of human beings who are the subject of cul-ture.The humanistic spirit,as the spirit of culture,embodies human beings′pursuit of freedom.It is through culture that man interacts with the external world and bodies forth his own being.Spiritual culture,which is culture narrowly defined,fully embodies the dynamics of cultural function,and thus has come to represent cul-ture as a whole.The essence of a culture differs from its nature in terms of importance and function.Core value system is not only the vital component of the essence of a culture,but also a major contributor to cultural devel-opment.Core value system belongs to the domain of ideology,consisting of spiritual values in the superstruc-ture.Like a spiritual sun,the system reflects the prevailing humanistic spirit of a particular age and therefore forms the most essential part of the essence.Core value system is a major contributor to cultural development in that it also reflects on and critiques the culture itself,which is most evident in its function of guidance and co-hesion in cultural development.Transcendence is different from development.Alienation occurs when a culture goes beyond itself and is a result of the two dynamic functions of culture mentioned above.
