The research area is located in the northwest joint part of Longmenshan Mountain, where geological conditions are complex and the degree of shale gas exploration is low.The main purpose of this paper is to analyze and contrast shale gas potential in Qiujiahe Formation (C-1q)and Longmaxi Formation (S1ln).Main techniques include field investigation, laboratorial analysis and methodology of probability volume calculation. The results of the research indicate that (1 )For shale gas preservation,General geological conditions are relatively favorable for C-1 q and S1 ln.(2 )there is optimistic prospect for C-1 q and S1ln in research area, which are 62.06×108m3 (C-1q)and 17.05×108m3 (S1ln).Methodology of probability volume is effective in assessing shale gas potential;and (3)the two formations present objective and relative risks in shale gas generation and preservation respectively. The southeast part (Guangyuan and Sandui)of the research area is more favorable of shale gas exploration.
