叙述可靠性包含可靠和不可靠两种情况。古典小说叙述的可靠性与其伦理判断密切相关。叙述可靠时，叙述者完全认同隐含作者的价值观，可以有效地控制叙述，进行伦理引导。叙述不可靠的情形包括：叙述与事实不符、叙述意图与叙述内容不一致、叙述者的价值体系有问题、反讽、叙述者的沉默与隐含作者不一致，这些不可靠情形都有其伦理意味。

Narrative reliability includes both the reliable and the unreliable .Narrative reliability in classical novels is closely related with its ethical judgment .In narrative reliability ,the narrator completely agrees with the implied author's value outlook ,and can effectively control narration .Narrative unreliability in-cludes inconsistency between narration and facts ;differences between narrative intention and narrative content ;inconsistency of narrator's value system ,irony and silence with the implied author's ,which has a sense of ethical judgment .
