This paper will analyse the translation of the essays in The Best American Essays 2010 and The Best American Travel Writ-ing 2010 by the graduate students, point out the mis-translated words, and further prove the importance of monolingual learner’s dictionary, context and background knowledge in defining the meaning of a word.
