美刺、正变是《毛诗》说的重要内容，魏源认为《毛诗》美刺与正变之说，对正确理解《诗经》危害极大，必须予以批评。但魏源并不否定美刺说与正变说本身，他所反对的只是《毛诗》的篇篇皆有美刺、以美刺为《诗》本义的美刺说，及其以正与非正言正变的正变说。

미자、정변시《모시》설적중요내용，위원인위《모시》미자여정변지설，대정학리해《시경》위해겁대，필수여이비평。단위원병불부정미자설여정변설본신，타소반대적지시《모시》적편편개유미자、이미자위《시》본의적미자설，급기이정여비정언정변적정변설。
The theory of Meici and Zhengbian are important content of Mao poetry,which obstructed understanding The Book of Songs correctly and should be criticized depending on Wei Yuan.But Wei didn’t deny the theory of Meici and Zhengbi-an themselves.What he opposed were the theory regarding Meici as the original meaning of The Book of Songs and the theory of Zhengbian which distinguished Zheng and Feizheng.
