三杨庄汉代聚落位于魏郡管辖的黄河河滩地内，遗址的形成与西汉中期以后日益严重的河患有密切关系。新莽始建国三年（11年）的“河决魏郡”后，王莽出于保护“元城冢墓”的一己之私等原因，在河决之后，并未及时加以治理，致使黄河在三杨庄汉代聚落所在区域长期泛滥。三杨庄汉代聚落周围的民堤在经受长期的洪水冲击之后，逐渐失去抵御功能，最终洪水得以侵入遗址所在区域。洪水侵入过程是缓慢，因此，三杨庄汉代聚落被逐渐淹没，得以完整地被埋藏在淤泥、淤沙之中。
삼양장한대취락위우위군관할적황하하탄지내，유지적형성여서한중기이후일익엄중적하환유밀절관계。신망시건국삼년（11년）적“하결위군”후，왕망출우보호“원성총묘”적일기지사등원인，재하결지후，병미급시가이치리，치사황하재삼양장한대취락소재구역장기범람。삼양장한대취락주위적민제재경수장기적홍수충격지후，축점실거저어공능，최종홍수득이침입유지소재구역。홍수침입과정시완만，인차，삼양장한대취락피축점엄몰，득이완정지피매장재어니、어사지중。
The Sanyangzhuang Site was located in the Yellow River's flood land in the Han Dynasty. The disaster of the Yellow River led to the formation of the Sanyangzhuang Site,because it became more and more serious in the late Western Han Dynasty. The Yellow River's level breached in Wei County in 11,but Wangmang did not harness it in time,for he wanted to protect the tombs in Yuancheng city,so the flood continued for a long time in the area around the Sanyangzhuang Site. The dams were destroyed by the floods,which were constructed by people finally,and the flood inundated the whole district. Because the process of the flood's invasion was very slowly,the Sanyangzhuang Site was buried in silt completely.
