《说文解字》与《说文广义》都不是虚词词典，但二书都对虚词进行了研究。它们在虚词解释的时候，在术语、体例、收词、训释方法等方面存在异同，显示出《说文广义》对《说文解字》虚词成果的继承和发扬。由此可以看出《说文广义》对语言学的贡献。
《설문해자》여《설문엄의》도불시허사사전，단이서도대허사진행료연구。타문재허사해석적시후，재술어、체례、수사、훈석방법등방면존재이동，현시출《설문엄의》대《설문해자》허사성과적계승화발양。유차가이간출《설문엄의》대어언학적공헌。
While Shuowenjiezi and Shuowenguangyi are not dictionaries on empty words,both books made a study of empty words.They have differences and similarities in terms,styles,entries and explanations.Shuowenguangyi has showed the her-itage and development of the achievements of empty words of Shuowenjiezi.Therefore,we can say that Shuowenguangyi makes a great contribution to linguistics.
