The important roles and uses of temperature tests in the development of military products and the main influence of temperature environment on equipments as well as their typical failure modes were described in this paper. A variety of typical test procedures, their uses and simulated environment included in China's major military and civilian environmental test series standards (GJB 150/150A, HB 6167/6167A, GB/T 2423, etc.) were introduced. The features and tailoring methods of various typical temperature test procedures were illustrated and list. The requirements of temperature test chambers and test equipments were also list. Finally, the techniques of temperature stability, temperature chambers selection, temperature test conditions determination, the products'temperature response measurements and temperature tests interrupt handling were discussed. <br> This paper was divided into four parts. The influence of temperature on equipment, the failure mechanism and the importance of temperature tests were described in the first part. The typical temperature test procedures in major environmental test standards were described in the second part. The test temperature, test duration, the differences and tailoring methods of various test methods were detailed in the third part. The requirements of temperature test chambers and some other testing techniques were discussed in the fourth part. This is the first part.
