After giving brief introduction to translation practices and translation theories of YanFu and John Dryden , we especially make a comparative study on the differences and similarities of their main translation ideas about translation standards and methods, translation difficulties, translation purposes and functions, and translator’s qualifications, aiming to explore the common inherent laws of translation in China and the West, reveal the complexity of translation itself and enlightenments on today ’s translation studies.
