Articular cartilage injury is one of the main reasons affecting the function of joint movement. Early diagnosis and correct assessment of the extent of damage are critical. Magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI ) is recognized as the best noninvasive imaging method of checking the articular cartilage. Especially in recent years, with the rapid development of quantitative magnetic resonance imaging ( QMRI ), the articular cartilage noninvasive technology has progressed from the morphological level to the molecular and biochemical level. More and more effective techniques have been proposed for the early detection and evaluation of articular cartilage injuries. Based on the previous literatures, the research status and progress of current and emerging MRI imaging rechniques of the articular cartilage are reviewed in this paper.
