山水传说包含了民间传说所有的功能和价值。但是，作为民间传说中独特的类型，山水传说具有独特鲜明的文化功能和社会价值。如给美的山水进一步提炼与升华、旅游文化的开发利用价值、促进人文生态和自然环境的保护功能、具有爱乡土促和谐的教育功能等。

The legends of mountains and waters usually contain all the function and value of the folklore .However ,as a special type of the folklore ,those legends have their own distinctive cultural function and social value ,such as a further refinement and sublimation to the ever beautiful mountains and waters ;the development and exploitation value of the tourist culture ;the protection function of the humanity ecology and natural environment ;the educational function of loving one’s homeland and promoting harmony ,etc .
