当前高职校企合作基本处于初低级阶段，作为合作一方的企业受益不够、动力不足，校企无法深度融合。协同创新以协同方式将校企双方优质要素进行组合，以促进创新，实现校企双方的互利共赢，为高职院校校企合作的深化与发展提供了更广阔的舞台。实现校企协同创新需要与区域经济社会发展协同，创新服务地方经济社会发展的能力；产、学、研相互协同，创新科研服务能力；校企合作体制机制改革协同，创新一体化机制。
