Detection of speciifc allergen is very important for the diagnosis of allergic skin diseases. Laboratory methods to detect allergen in vivo include: skin prick test, skin scratch test and intra-dermal test which are tests for type I allergy, and patch test, photo-patch test and atopy patch test which are tests for type IV allergy. This manuscript reviews the indications, contraindications, procedure, assessment, adverse effects, precautions, and results interpretation of these test methods.
